Gemini Wall Light in Reclaimed French Walnut

It’s hard to believe that this wonderfully unique Gemini wall light is actually made from old reclaimed flooring. But it’s not just any old flooring. This is ancient French walnut, one of the most admired hardwoods of all time. Many of the finest antiques in Europe are made from French Walnut. So, when I came across this wonderful wood I knew I had to design something ‘ageless’ to extend its longevity. Walnut wood is always alluring, but when it is aged, then it becomes even more mesmerising and magnificent. 

Gemini is a merging of spirit and matter; two forces pulling in opposite directions, that form something completely unique. The two smaller pieces of walnut, neatly embedded with bright LEDs, that illuminate the background, but also shine softly diffused light into the room. An effect that is both magical and mysterious. 

The outer blocks are secured to the larger centre-piece using aluminium, which gives the Gemini wall light even more character and adaptability. Whereas the middle section of walnut gives the piece its strength and energy, concealing the transformer that powers the LEDs. 

 

Ultimately, my aim was to create something else beautiful and practical from this ancient French wood flooring. When I see the curious energy that emanates from the Gemini twins I believe that I have achieved it.
