Lyra Wood Frame Lamp – Stylish modern table, study, bedside lamp with lampshade

It’s not often that I work with what I term a traditional lampshade, because personally I think they often look a little old-fashioned. But that’s definitely not the case with this lamp. The Lyra is stylish, unconventional and it’s an enigma – I swear that if you look at the lampshade long enough, you actually imagine that it has magical properties; that it is floating freely on the wooden frame. 

I have attached a small, almost inconspicuous metal bar to the base of the frame. It acts like the rudder on a ship to add stability. If that’s the case, then the lampshade is the nautical figurehead on the ship’s bow, acting as a lookout and safely lighting the way. Gently rising and falling like a wooden ship, sailing smoothly across the seas.

The slender rectangular frame is made of solid wood and has a curious colour, that I can only describe as a bronzed grey. When I applied the finish the result was totally unexpected; it has an almost oxidised look, perhaps slightly metallic. But there are still some sublime glimpses of the wood grain coming through.

 

The Lyra table lamp has a brand new E14 (small screw-in) lamp holder, which securely holds the black lampshade in place with a plastic screw-ring. This can easily be removed or replaced if required. You could also change the lampshade when you have a change of colour scheme. In which case this magical and stylish lamp could last you a lifetime!

• Power Supply : Electric. Supplied with cable and either a EU or UK type plug. For use in the USA and other countries, a standard plug will need to be fitted. These can be purchased from any good electrical or hardware store. Also, for this lamp I would recommend a short candle or golf ball style LED bulb with an E14 fitting.
